Kristina's Top 5 Must-Haves for the New Year
Posted on 29 December 2016
Hello! My name is Kristina, I blog at The Eyre Effect about vintage fashion and books, and today I'm so happy to be guest-posting here at Books and Ballads about my five must-haves for the New Year.
A Good Book
Of course, as an avid reader and aspiring author, the first thing on my list is always a book. I always have some sort of reading goal every year, and in 2017 I hope to read at least 24 novels. It may not sound like a lot, but as a busy mom of two, two books a month is sometimes all I can handle! Neverhwere, by Neil Gaiman, is one of my all-time favorite novels, and I think it's the perfect fantasy to start a New Year's reading list!
A Dress that Makes you Feel Amazing
Being a fashion blogger, of course I couldn't make a list without something to wear! As a mom, I know how easy it is to slip into yoga pants and a tee shirt every day (no shame in that!), but I am a firm believer in taking time for yourself. It's so important to take little self-care acts in your daily routine as a parent. And whether that's doing your hair, taking a shower, putting on makeup, or wearing a cute outfit, it's important to find the thing that makes you feel like YOU, and do it! This Grace Karin dress is one of my favorites; its full skirt is perfect for twirling, the neckline is so flattering, and it has a cutout back! I've worn it countless times and, funny enough, this particular time was for a book review! You can see more of the review here.
Coffee (and a Mug)
As a coffee lover and a nerd, what's a better way to start a new year than with a new coffee mug? I bought this one for my husband, and I tend to steal it because... Star Wars. Ha! It's always fun to add a new mug to your collection, though, even if you're a tea-drinker, and it's a nice little way to treat yourself.
The Perfect Bold Lipstick
Of course not everyone is into black lipstick, but what better time to try something new? This NYX liquid suede lipstick in Oh, Put it On is one of my favorite go-to lipcolors for when I want to feel extra bold. It might be funny to say, but lipstick can be totally transformative! I went from feeling just so-so on this day to feeling like nothing could stop me, all because of a bold lipstick choice! (You can see more of this post here)
And lastly, I always want to journal in the New Year. I'm not a very good journalist, as I generally fill up about half the journal and then forget to write more. But, I still love picking up new journals to try to fill up every year. This one reminds me of Lord of the Rings and I love it! My husband and I met over our mutual love of Tolkien, and you could say that if it hadn't been for Tolkien, we may never have gotten married. Anything that reminds me of Middle Earth is always a good thing! And that's it! Those are my five must-haves for the New Year! What are yours? Thank you for reading, and be sure to come visit my blog for lots of vintage and retro fashion and, always, books.
