Book Review: The Governess Game by Tessa Dare
Posted on 12 July 2018
At last, a decent historical romance released in 2018! With all the disappointing releases this year, I was starting to lose hope.
The Governess Game has been one of my most-anticipated books since The Duchess Deal (which I adore). Hence, when I saw this ARC on Edelweiss+, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to review it. Going into it, my expectations were low, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Alexandra and Chase are both multi-dimensional, interesting characters. I have a slight preference for Chase (just because he's the hero). The two girls, Daisy and Sam were adorable and I enjoyed their doll funerals very much. Chase's solicitor and Alexandra's friends (Emma from the previous book and Nic and Penny) also make great side characters.
However, what stood out the most to me in this book is the humor. The Governess Game is hilarious, especially in the first half. Tessa's writing is top-notch, as always, which makes the book a fun read. She's getting better with every book. The romance flows at a realistic pace and there are no forced conflicts, forced break-ups, or drama which is refreshing.
Overall, The Governess Game is clearly the best historical romance released this year (so far). I highly recommend it to all Tessa Dare and HR fans.
* I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This book is available starting August 28th, 2018 wherever books are sold.
