Today, we have Nalini Singh, the best-selling author of paranormal romances on our blog.

Trivia

Favorite Book(s): Too many to count!

Favorite Author(s): Here are just some: JD Robb, Jayne Ann Krentz, Anne McCaffrey, Sharon Lee & Steve Miller, Jonathan Kellerman

Favorite Color:  Depends on my mood, but I tend to favor intense jewel tones

Favorite Food: Chocolate

Favorite Season: Autumn

City of Your Dreams: I LOVE where I live – it’s so lush and green and you’re never far from nature. Everyone should visit! (Don’t mind the dormant volcanoes…)

Favorite TV Show/ Movie: Currently, it’s Sense8. Historically, I’m a Trekkie.

Most underrated book, in your opinion: Not a book, but a series – the Liaden series by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller. It’s so fantastic. In my opinion, it should be HUGE!

Morning person or night owl: Night owl.

When did you know that you wanted to become an author? What is your favorite part about being a writer?

I’ve written since I was very young. When I became aware that there were people who actually wrote for a living, I began to dream of becoming one of them.

I love so much about being a writer – being able to create worlds of the imagination, the flexibility of my work hours, the connection with my readers, there’s just an incredible amount to love.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

I came into writing from reading, and reading remains my favorite hobby. I also love catching up with family and friends, and I think I might be becoming more sociable than I was in my earlier hermit-writer days!

Who is one writer whose writing style you want to steal (really admire)?

I don’t really want to steal anyone’s style. I think each writer should be a unique individual with their own voice.

But, I truly admire Anne McCaffrey’s worldbuilding and have learned so much from it in a technical sense, most importantly that a world must be coherent and that all the details, even the smallest, matter.

Best writing advice you’ve received?

To just write the next book instead of obsessing over a book that’s already out or, before I was published, that I’d submitted to an agent or publisher.

Which one of your books if your favorite?

Whichever one I’m writing at the time. That book has my total attention and focus and I’m madly in love with it. I think every book deserves this kind of passion.

Where do you find inspiration for your work? What do you do to motivate yourself to keep going everyday?

Inspiration can come from anywhere. I believe in keeping myself open to the universe and what it has to show me.

The motivation comes from within. Writing is my passion and something I love to do.

What do you think is the most important quality for a writer to have?

Passion for your work, plus the discipline to put in the time to make the words happen.

What do you love about the romance genre and the community around it?

It’s so genuinely supportive and friendly. There’s just so much warmth, a true sense of community.

What is the best compliment that you’ve received for your work?

Every time a reader tells me my work touched them in some way – whether it made them cry, or made them laugh, or anything else – it really hits me. To hear that my work has touched a cord in someone else’s heart, that’s such a humbling, beautiful thing.

Thank you so much for doing this interview with us. Do you have any projects in the pipeline? When can we expect to hear more from you?

My next release is SILVER SILENCE, featuring a determined bear changeling hero and a cool-as-ice Psy heroine. This book was incredible fun to write and I can’t wait for readers to dive into it. (I’m grinning just thinking about Valentin and Silver and their private battle).

After that, I have ARCHANGEL’S VIPER in September. This book is full of snark and action and sizzling sexual tension.

Also, I’m currently at work on my next contemporary, featuring a hot gardener hero with blue, blue eyes. After that, I’ll be working on my next Psy-Changeling book, so there’s plenty to keep me going!
